Movie Review 2: Piku

Movie: PIKU

Piku is like that slice of pie you never knew you craved until you had a little taste and then couldn't get enough. This is one of my absolute favourite movies of the last decade and everytime I rewatch it, still feels fresh as the first time.

Deepika plays a fierce, independent, uncompromising Bengali woman to perfection. Never for a moment you feel that the woman playing the character is not actually a Bengali. This is Deepika's finest performance by far.

Piku has the most subtle love story we have seen on screen in some time. Deepika's chemistry with Irrfan is sparkling and I wish they had more scenes together. What can I say more about the late great Irrfan Khan Saahab? There has never been anyone like him and don't think there will ever be anyone like him again. Rana understood her like no one else and he seemed to be the only one able to deal with her father. When Piku asks Rana to stay back for a couple more days, that's her way of saying she likes him a lot. Remember this is an uncompromising and complicated woman who wouldn't even pick up the phone of her business partner if she didn't feel like it and doesn't believe in giving second chances.

But the true MVP of the movie is without a doubt Mr. Bachchan. His performance is another reason why this man is a national treasure and aptly called "Superstar of the Millennium". His acting is like a stream coming down from the mountains. It's so natural, feels pure and flows without a hindrance. Expect him to make you laugh, angry and even cry.
